INTROVERT and EXTROVERT are such commonly used words, that often people might neglect or be ignorant about the actual meaning of these. Now I'm not an expert in psychology, so I cannot exactly give you a theoretical explanation on these two terms, (I tried researching. I gave up in 1 minute.) but I can tell you how I evaluate it, and some common myths I've heard people believe in.
Introverts are more creative than extroverts.
What the hell, I think. I'm openly admitting I'm way less creative than many extroverts I've seen! I feel that this statement is merely said to make Introverts feel better about themselves, but there are better ways for that than false hope. It's like an introvert is sad about being one (I really don't know why they are though), you tell them this to cover up. Creativity definitely does not depend on introversion or extroversion.
Extroverts always spend time with others and around people.
Now come on, there's always a limit. Do you think if an extrovert is sad, they will give a damn about talking to people because "Oh wow, they are extroverts, they can talk to anyone in the whole world!" Stop this, please. Extroverts also need time alone, and just because they are outgoing doesn't mean they don't need time for self-evaluation and peace. So don't expect an extroverted person to always feel like starting a conversation. They are called extroverts because they tend to talk to new people with ease and are more open. Additionally, even introverts can enjoy being around people, even if they may not want to speak a lot they do enjoy the company.
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN INTROVERTED AND SHY
I've seen myself making this mistake a lot of times before too, there is a difference (though slight) between introverted and shy. Shy people find it difficult to talk and open up to newer people, while introverts just don't wish to do so. Being shy can be a characteristic of an introverted person, but it isn't necessary. And shy people may wish to talk to others and open up and make new friends, but it is a little hard for them, due to lack of confidence. We see even actors calling themselves introverts, but are they shy? Definitely not. And we see shy people being characterized as the ones who just don't want to make new friends, kindly stop this too, you never know what's in their head.
EXTROVERTS ARE MUCH MORE CONFIDENT AND HAPPY
Introverts can be very confident to say what is necessary and in speeches or competitions, but they just don't wish to speak a lot and reveal a lot about themselves. Socializing can be done even by meeting new people and just answering what they ask about as introverts can do, while an extrovert can talk more comfortably and go out of the way in conversations. Confidence is lacking in shy people, as mentioned before, and not all introverts are shy. When it comes to happiness, that is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. You don't always need other people to make you happy, do you?
These were some which I found from personal experience, yet there are many, some of which may also be contradictory to mine as per research. But well, we don't always need to do extensive research to see where we stand, sometimes real-life examples help. It's not necessary to categorize yourself by asking INTROVERT OR EXTROVERT OR AMBIVERT every time, but I hope this was useful for those people who are interested in thinking about this in detail.
